Proud to be a Sheriff’s Deputy

This photo was taken at 7am today, after working patrol since 11pm last night. I am exhausted and stunned.

Stunned as to wind down from my shift before my day job begins, I made the mistake of reading through my Facebook newsfeed. I see an enormous amount of unfair anger and disgust towards Police Officers.

As I read meme after meme, comments and opinion pieces, I cannot help but reflect on my all night shift.

Spending over an hour with a grieving, loving 50 something year old son, struggling to drive after visiting his mom’s grave.

Or the large family who experienced trauma and serious violence, pleading with me to stay at their house a little longer so as to protect them.

The Police Officers I see up close are nothing like the current popular perception being peddled of cops being authoritarian thugs. They are hard working, caring and willing to take sometimes immense risks to protect and serve. So yes, be angry at injustice, but also be careful not to simplistically generalize. Countless Police Officers truly care and work hard at doing the right thing.

I am proud to be a Sheriff’s Deputy.

  1. Thank you serving your community in this manner as a sheriff as well! One bad officer heard in the news and it seems all are ridiculed. My son-in-law has been an officer for over 15 years. I pray for all of you you men and women in law enforcement everyday! Thank for serving and sacrificing, may God keep you save always and God Bless You!

  3. I am proud of you. I can’t think of another person more capable and appropriate to be a deputy. Don’t let the social media get you down. Most of us are smart enough to know the good guys far outweigh the bad guys.
