WHAM Update June 3rd, 2020

Greetings in the name of the Lord! Today was another record day with 444 households helped, which is 1,946 individuals provided with food including 767 children. Given the continued high demand and with an eye on looking towards possibly transitioning back to a more normal distribution, I decided to see if I could find out why folks are still coming for food, some 14 weeks after this all started. I chatted with a lot of people while they sat in their car and every one of them had lost their job and had no idea when they would be able to work again. It is a tough time for so many right now.

We remain committed to doing all we can for as long as it takes. A calling and a privilege.

It was lovely to have Mike Stovall and his wife Ruth visit today. Mike is chair of the WHAM board and a key food pantry volunteer, Ruth is one of our hard working Client Services volunteers. Due to COVID, they haven’t been able to help out at WHAM, so it was special to see them today!

Recently, the incredible St. Cyril Knights of Columbus Council 8024 donated $1,000.00 and 1200 pounds of food, all collected from St. Cyril’s Catholic Parish! We are so thankful and blessed by our relationship with these fine folks.  Thanks to Scott Fleming and Tim Henken!!

Due the now large amount of goods requiring cold storage, the Houston Food Bank dropped off a large cooled trailer. In it is 1,000 boxes of produce that will be handed out this week. Its a much larger scale operation now! The team have done an incredible job meeting the much increased demand.

Today I recorded a Facebook live video taking a look at the incredibly long line. To watch it, see:

Please do continue to pray for all those affected. What a year we are having!

  1. God Bless you and the work you are all doing in your community. My prayers are with you daily. Please stay safe and out of harms way. We are facing protests as my SIL is an Officer working Civil Disturbance on the front lines…prayers for them all please and prayers for peaceful protests and continued healing for those (myself included) out of work and in these difficult times for so many throughout our country and the world. May the Lord be with us and have mercy on us all. 🙏
